Kerala election result 2025 live: NDA is closing in on the majority mark in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, leading in 49 of 101 wards, with the halfway mark at 51. Meanwhile, Kozhikode Corporation is witnessing a close contest, with the LDF leading in 29 wards and the UDF close behind at 25.

Kerala election result 2025 live updates: The counting of votes for Kerala’s local body elections began at 8 am on Saturday for the 1,199 local bodies where polling was held in two phases. The outcome is being closely watched, as it is expected to shape the strategy and direction of campaigning by political parties and fronts in the state ahead of the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.

Officials first took up the counting of postal ballots, following which votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) were counted. The exercise is being carried out at 244 counting centres across the state and at 14 district collectorates.

According to PTI news agency, some issues were also reported at a few counting centres, including ThiruvananthapuramPalakkad and Vadakara, over entry being given to booth agents and candidates.

The oath-taking ceremony for elected panchayat members and municipal councillors will be held on December 21 at 10 am, while newly elected corporation councillors will take oath at 11 am the same day.

Highest turnout since 1995

This year’s local body elections in Kerala saw the highest voter turnout since the first civic polls in 1995, reported PTI.

Conducted in two phases, the second phase recorded a turnout of 76.08 per cent, according to State Election Commission (SEC) figures released around 9.30 pm on Thursday.

The first phase, held on December 9, had a turnout of 70.91 per cent, bringing the overall participation in the elections to 73.69 per cent.

1. Counting of votes is underway across Kerala’s 1,199 local bodies, with early trends showing a split verdict between rural and urban areas. The ruling LDF is ahead in several grama and block panchayats, while the opposition UDF is leading in many municipalities and corporations.

2. In corporation-wise trends, the UDF is currently leading in Kochi, Thrissur, Kannur and Kollam, marking a significant improvement from the last local body polls when it won only Kannur. The LDF and NDA are leading in one corporation each.

3. The contest in capital Thiruvananthapuram Corporation remains closely watched, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party.

4. Municipality trends show the UDF establishing a comfortable lead, with the front leading in 48 municipalities so far. The LDF is leading in 30, the NDA in one, while five municipalities are witnessing ties.

5. The UDF continues to maintain a comfortable lead in the Ernakulam Corporation, ahead in 44 wards, according to the State Election Commission.
