Florida football won’t just have a new coach patrolling the sidelines next season. The Gators will also be looking for a new starting quarterback. After firing Billy Napier and hiring Tulane’s Jon Sumrall, UF quarterback DJ Lagway is planning to enter the transfer portal.

Lagway was the full-time starter as a sophomore, throwing for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Florida finished the year 4-8, with its only wins over Long Island, Texas, Mississippi State and Florida State. All of these games were played at home. Napier was fired following the win over Mississippi State. After his departure, the team went just 1-4.

Lagway announced the decision on his Instagram on Monday morning.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for every blessing he has placed over my life,” Lagway wrote. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an incredible program here at the University of Florida.”
